“God’s Promise to Reward His Saints: The Crown of Glory” - EVENING SERVICE 08262018

On Sunday nights I have been preaching through a series titled "The Promises of God."  Last week I began another “series within a series” that will focus on “God’s Promise to Reward His Saints.”  This past Sunday evening we talked about the last of the five crowns; the Crown of Glory or the pastor’s crown.  This is a crown that is exclusive for those individual’s who accept the calling of the Lord to shepherd His flock.  Being a pastor is not the easiest job someone can take.  It is a hard job and there always seems to be more downs than up.  Yet, when the ups do take place, they bring the pastor much joy and glory.

"Grace in the Face of Sinfulness" - MORNING SERVICE 08262018

On Sunday I talked about Levi or Matthew’s calling, by Christ, to follow Him.  In looking at Luke 5:25-32, I pointed out two things: (1) the sinfulness of man and (2) the grace of Christ.  At Matthew’s party to celebrate his new-found relationship with Jesus, a group of religious leaders start grumbling about why Christ was fellowshipping with a sinner such as the tax collector Matthew.  Jesus tells them that he did not come to save the righteous but the unrighteous.  Upon thinking about this statement, and realizing that we are all sinful, we can quickly determine that no one is righteous.  Thus, despite our sinfulness, the grace of Christ overcomes in our lives.

On Sunday nights I have been preaching through a series titled "The Promises of God."  Last week I began another “series within a series” that will focus on “God’s Promise to Reward His Saints.”  During this series we are going to look at the five possible crowns that Christians can receive at the “Judgment Seat of Christ.”  The forth crown, in scriptural order, comes from James 1:12 and is called “The Crown of Life.”  In this passage we are going to find two qualifications for receiving “The Crown of Life.”

"Faithful Follower of Christ VS. Critical Divider of the Church" - MORNING SERVICE 08192018

After being gone for a little more than a week I was ready to go on Sunday Morning.  I preached about being faithful to God and others rather than being critical and divisive of God and others.  Too frequently Christians fight and all fighting does is harm Christians and our Christian witness.  We need to live lives of faithfulness to God and others and avoid being critical and divisive in our Christian lives.

"Parresia: The X-Factor" - Dr. Gary Frost - MORNING SERVICE 08122018

Thank you to everyone who prayed for me and my family this past week as we have been on vacation. We had a great time visiting Washington D.C. with my parents.

Last Sunday, August 12th, Central Baptist was blessed to have Dr. Gary Frost preach for me. Dr. Frost is the Associational Missionary for the Steel Valley Baptist Association; which is the association of Southern Baptist churches that CBC associates with. The title of Dr. Frost’s sermon was Parresia: The X-Factor and his text was Acts 4:13, 29-31. The recording begins with Dr. Frost reading from the end of Isaiah 40.

“God’s Promise to Reward His Saints: The Crown of Righteousness” - EVENING SERVICE 08052018

On Sunday nights I have been preaching through a series titled "The Promises of God."  Last week I began another “series within a series” that will focus on “God’s Promise to Reward His Saints.”  During this series we are going to look at the five possible crowns that Christians can receive at the “Judgment Seat of Christ.”  The third crown, in scriptural order, comes from 2 Timothy 4:6-8 and is called “The Crown of Righteousness.”  This passage of scripture is very powerful because Paul wrote it from his prison cell in expectation of his imminent execution.  Paul tells Timothy, and through him Christians today, that he has earned the Crown of Righteousness based on the righteous work he performed following his salvation.  Christians today can earn this crown as well.

"Help Wanted!" - MORNING SERVICE 08052018

On Sunday morning I preached about asking for help from others and giving help to those in need. We focused on the story of Jesus cleansing a man who had leprosy from Luke 5.  Leprosy was a horrible skin disease that not only effected a person physical (their health) but also forced them to be outcasts in the community.  I tied this story into how Christians are to help other people (fellow Christians and non-believers) and put their pride aside when they need to ask for help.
